Posture over Paper

A Christian Fortress

Why the Remnant Needs a Phalanx, Not Another Synod

For over half a century, serious Christians in the West have operated under a quiet, devastating delusion: the belief that correct doctrine alone would preserve our civilization.

We told ourselves that if our statements of faith remained precise, our systematic theologies remained exhaustive, and our pulpits faithfully parsed Greek verbs, our communities would hold the line against the encroaching dark. Pastors spent decades refining their confessional boundaries while civil magistrates dismantled the moral order, corporate cartels captured public life, and the managerial state marched into our schools to catechize our children into outright degeneracy.

We treated the Church as a lifeboat drifting helplessly across a sea ruled entirely by Satan, biding time until a rescue helicopter plucked us out of history.

Here is the hard question: if the Church is merely a rescue ark resigned to the uncontested dominion of the enemy, does your immaculate doctrine even matter?

If your theology ends in surrender until those who reject Christ finish the job, your confession is merely an elaborate, highly technical suicide note. Correct doctrine without an assertive, uncompromising stance is nothing more than museum curation. The time for academic hair-splitting has passed. If we intend to obey the command of our Lord to occupy until He comes, our posture matters every bit as much as our doctrine.

The Parable of the Orthodoxy Without Backbone

Consider the typical modern conservative church. It holds to an impeccable historical creed. The elders can defend the Five Solas or the Tridentine decrees with textbook precision. Yet, step outside into the vestibule, and the entire atmosphere smells of fear.

These same men walk on eggshells to avoid offending the local chamber of commerce. They append nervous apologies to every biblical truth regarding marriage, sex, and civil order. When public health bureaucrats, activist school boards, or media watchdogs demand their submission, they retreat behind calls to "be a good witness" or "remain neutral." They equate Christian love with a paralyzing desire for social respectability.

They possess orthodox doctrine, but their posture is supine. They are permanently cowering.

When the enemies of Christ look at that congregation, they do not see a threat; they see occupied territory that requires no garrison because the natives have already disarmed themselves. An army that memorizes the field manual perfectly while refusing to leave the barracks will be slaughtered just as surely as an army of illiterate conscripts.

What Is "Posture"?

Posture is not doctrine. Doctrine is the internal map of theological truth; posture is the stance of the soldier who steps onto the field to defend that truth.

Doctrine is settled in the study; posture is forged in the hostile public space. Posture is the visceral, unbending commitment to clarity without apology. It is the instinct to treat the Kingship of Jesus Christ not as an abstract theological preference to be debated at an academic colloquium, but as an objective, geopolitical reality that outranks every human institution, constitution, and judge.

Look at the men currently having an impact on the broader culture. They come from different denominational traditions and operate with starkly distinct intellectual models:

  • Andrew Torba builds parallel digital and physical infrastructure from the raw premise that Christ is King over the public square and the market.
  • Joel Webbon hammers the public square with unvarnished biblical law, explicitly telling men to hate sin and reject the soft, effeminate pietism that surrendered the West.
  • E. Michael Jones conducts an unflinching post-mortem of cultural subversion, naming the historical and spiritual forces of decline without hiding behind policy jargon.

If you put those three men in a room to draft a joint systematic theology, they would disagree within fifteen minutes. One is a Reformed Baptist confessionalist, another an independent builder, another a traditional Catholic philosopher of history.

Yet their impact does not come from their doctrinal harmony. It comes from their shared posture:

  1. Christ's Kingship is treated as an axiom, not an open question up for negotiation.
  2. They name the enemy plainly, using concrete terms instead of respectable, focus-grouped euphemisms.
  3. They refuse to seek permission from the secular regime, corporate media, or establishment gatekeepers.
  4. They build parallel reality instead of merely begging the current regime for a seat at the table.
  5. They wear the contempt of the world as a badge of honor, treating the inevitable labels from hostile watchdogs as proof of effectiveness rather than cause for retraction.

They do not share a single theory; they share an iron spine for Christ. That common stance makes them effective while thousands of cautious, polite, respectable pulpits go entirely unnoticed by the forces tearing down our civilization.

Neutrality Is a Myth

For decades, well-meaning Christians sought refuge under artificial banners like "Judeo-Christian values" or "common-ground conservatism." They did this out of an instinctive terror of explicit Christian identity. They convinced themselves that if they cloaked their faith in secular civic language, the regime would allow them to quietly raise their families in peace.

That era is over. The regime does not negotiate with those who compromise. There is no neutral soil on earth. Every square inch of culture, law, education, and economy is claimed by Jesus Christ, and every inch not surrendered to Him is currently occupied by enemies who despise Him and intend to replace His people.

When we create a political front, our Statement of Faith does not need to resolve every intramural dispute that has occupied seminaries for four centuries. We need a practical Christian neutral ground for soclal and political speech. It needs the bedrock realities of the Christian faith:

  • Man's fundamental problem is sin.
  • We are moral agents personally guilty before a holy God.
  • We cannot save ourselves through human ingenuity, managerial expertise, or political engineering.
  • Jesus Christ, fully God and fully man, is the sole solution, the reigning King of history, and the final judge of all rulers.

Beyond that, what we demand is the Posture of Defiance. In the battle for the culture and the downstream politics, we do not need an alliance of men who agree on every jot and tittle of eschatological timing. We need men who refuse to apologize for their Master. We need men who have settled the issue of their personal reputations and are prepared to be cast out of polite society for the sake of the truth.

Applying the Filter

This approach will repel many people, and that is a valuable efficiency. It will deeply offend comfortable churchgoers who view their faith primarily as a social calendar, a therapeutic support group, or a mechanism for remaining a respectable suburban citizen. It will offend allies who still think our salvation lies in another conventional election cycle run by polite, secularized think tanks.

Let it repel them. We cannot waste finite time, energy, and resources trying to drag hesitant men into a fight they secretly want to avoid. A phalanx is not measured by raw head counts; it is measured by whether every shield in the line stays locked when the enemy charges. We don't have time for internal side-tracks.

If Christ has truly overcome the world, act like it. Stop whispering your convictions in darkened rooms out of shame. If you must exercise operational security to protect your livelihood, feed your family, and fund the mission, do so with clear eyes and tactical discipline. That is not weakness; that is prudence. But be honest about it: first to God, then to yourself, and then to the men locked in the phalanx with you. If you cannot speak plainly with your own brothers, they are not your brothers. Never confuse the discipline of feeding your household with the sin of craving the regime's approval. Keep your powder dry, provide for your blood, and stop hedging your prayers with bureaucratic caveats. Stop asking for permission from an order that hates your God.

Doctrine informs the mind, but posture governs the will. If we are to stand fast, build parallel communities, preserve our heritage, and occupy until He comes, we must raise men who have abandoned the fear of man. It is time to leave the bunker, take the ground that belongs to our King, and hold it without a single word of apology. This begins with your own internal posture and then how you communicate when you can.

If this one landed, the next one will too.
